Who is Simone?
tldr; MS in Computer Science and I'm in search full-time and freelance opportunities to apply my knowledge.
After graduating in May 2016 with a BA in Spanish and Linguistics, I accepted a position managing the housekeeping and laundry departments at a vacation rental company. When I was hired, the company had just switched to a new vacation rental software in an effort to streamline operations. One of my early projects was to adapt the existing systems to the new VRS. During this process, I discovered a bug. After many hours of debugging on my end and sending in tickets that were closed without fixing the issue I created a hack to circumvent the issue.
A few month later the VRS company invited us to a conference where I got to meet some of the Software Engineering team. In person, I was able to recreate the issue and explain the troubleshooting that I had done and even provide a possible cause for the issue. The issue was never actually solved (and I still think there were a couple of mis-matched variables), but that experience got me thinking that Software Engineering might be a good fit for me.
A few years later, I decided to test my aptitude for coding by taking some continuing education courses in Python at NYU SPS. I picked up the material easily, and I enjoyed the puzzle of putting together instructions to make the computer do what I wanted. From there I enrolled in the Tandon Bridge, a program designed to prepare people with non-STEM undergraduate degrees for graduate level study in Computer Science. The Bridge included coursework in discrete math, complexity analysis, data structures and algorithms, and principles of operating systems. My next step was becoming a part-time MS student at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering.
Now that I've graduated I'm ready apply my knowledge to part-time/freelance work and full time opportunities.
